ABOUT
As a life-long equestrian, film editor and documentarian specializing in the history of pop music, I would love to help you create a unique freestyle that reflects the special bond between you and your horse.
My first music documentary, released in 1984, “The Compleat Beatles,” coined the term “rockumentary.” After this milestone, I directed numerous acclaimed documentaries on the origins and history of rock ‘n roll and was the lead creative director for The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
I believe that we all have stories to tell and that as dressage riders, we can do so through the music we choose for our freestyles. Your freestyle is not only an opportunity to highlight your dance partner’s talents, it can also conjure a moment in time, express a point of view, or simply let us know what makes you want to move and groove!
I also believe that with the right music, we can bring our sport and the art of dressage to a broader audience. While I welcome all ideas, I gravitate toward rock, pop, soul, funk, punk, folk, country, trance, deep house, hip hop, world music and, of course, jazz and the blues.
I’ve collaborated on and/or created freestyles for riders of all levels, from first to Grand Prix.
HOW I WORK
Send me a video of your choreography ridden in a 20m x 60m arena, as well as your playlist, via WhatsApp. I encourage you to include a playlist, no matter how basic it might be. The more you bring to the table, the less I charge. This is YOUR horse and YOUR story and my fee is contingent upon the amount of music research I have to undertake. Understanding your musical taste and using it to enhance your horse’s unique charms and athletic abilities takes time.
If you cannot provide a playlist, I will propose three to five tracks for each gait. Once we agree upon a selection of music, I’ll deliver a rough edit. Upon approval of the rough edit, I’ll complete phrasing and refine transitions. I will make up to three revisions after you ride your freestyle, based upon your written comments, for the agreed upon price.
50% of my fee is due before I begin a project. 50% is due before I release the final version, usually in the form of an mp3 file.
Previous clients receive a 10% discount on new freestyles.
Your choreography, playlist and deposit must be delivered 30 days prior to your requested delivery date.
Prices available upon request.
